CITES TASK FORCES

CITES task forces are convened to address specific issues related to illegal wildlife trade.
They bring together government representatives, including CITES Enforcement,
Management and Scientific Authorities, to discuss law enforcement gaps related to illegal
wildlife trade and identify joint strategies to address them.
Since 2010, ICCWC has provided technical and financial support to CITES task forces aimed
to address illegal trade in rhinoceros horn, tortoises, freshwater turtles, ivory, trees, and big
cats. These task force meetings enabled relevant authorities and other stakeholders to
convene in person, as well as to benefit from the specialized knowledge of international
organizations leading on the fight against wildlife crime, including INTERPOL, UNODC, the
World Bank, and WCO.
