15 ACHIEVEMENTS
For 15 years, the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC)
has been working with and supporting Parties to take stronger, smarter, and more
coordinated action against wildlife and forest crime.
On 10 November 2010, the Consortium was formally established after the heads of
each of the ICCWC partner organizations - the Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the International Criminal
Police Organization (INTERPOL), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
(UNODC), the World Bank, and the World Customs Organization (WCO) - signed the
ICCWC Letter of Understanding.
Since then, ICCWC has played a leading role in equipping law enforcement across
the criminal justice chain with cutting-edge tools, training and operations support,
helping transform law enforcement responses to the transnational threat of wildlife
crime.
Significant achievements have been made by countries globally to combat wildlife
crime since the establishment of the Consortium in 2010. Wildlife crime is now
recognized as a serious global challenge and highlighted in United Nations General
Assembly Resolutions, where the crucial role of ICCWC as a key partnership driving
international action is acknowledged.
To mark ICCWC’s 15-year milestone, this publication takes the reader across 15
achievements over the 15 years. It shows how countries have strengthened their
ability to detect, investigate, prosecute, and deter wildlife crime with ICCWC
support, protecting biodiversity and people around the world and bringing those
responsible for wildlife crime to justice.
